Working in healthcare in Medina: hospitals, clinics and applications
Doctors, specialists, nurses and other healthcare professionals moving to Medina now find a relatively large and varied healthcare market. Alongside the classic public hospitals there are facilities of the Ministry of Defense and the National Guard, Taibah University, several large private hospital groups, and smaller hospitals, medical centres, dental clinics and diagnostics providers.
In short
What matters is who stands behind a facility. The Madinah Health Cluster recruits differently from a military hospital, the National Guard, or a private operator such as Fakeeh or Mouwasat. Medical professions almost always also need classification with the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCFHS).

For public facilities, a growing share of recruiting no longer sits with the individual hospital but with Health Holding and the Madinah Health Cluster. Cluster careersKing Salman Medical City
King Salman bin Abdulaziz Medical City is not a single small hospital. In 2021 three facilities were merged: the Maternity and Children Hospital, Madinah Hospital and the Eradah Complex for Mental Health. That created a medical city with 1,246 beds, plus a neuroscience centre, oncology centre, diabetes centre and heart centre. Older names on maps or in documents are often now part of this structure. Military hospitals and the National Guard
Medina has two large permanent hospitals in this group: Prince Sultan Armed Forces Hospital of the Ministry of Defense and Prince Mohammed Bin Abdulaziz Hospital of the National Guard. There are also medical facilities of the Ministry of Interior and seasonal facilities of the Ministry of Defense.

Medina’s classic Ministry of Defense hospital. The official site describes care for ministry staff and their families. Stated principles include Patient First, Innovation, Professionalism and Continuous Learning. It employs doctors, nurses, allied health and administration. MOD recruiting also shows Medina roles, including nursing, physicians in several specialties and hospital administration.

This hospital does not belong to the Ministry of Defense. It belongs to the Ministry of National Guard Health Affairs (MNGHA). Fully equipped, 215 beds, at the foot of Uhud. MNGHA stresses evidence-based medicine, internal training, workshops, staff development and modern medical technology. The clinical range covers many medical, surgical and highly specialised disciplines.

Military and National Guard hospitals in Saudi Arabia often work at a different level from many private hospitals: complex medicine, internal training, subspecialties, technical infrastructure and structured clinical pathways. MNGHA describes its system as evidence-based and puts real weight on training and staff development.
Check age limits before you apply
Public and military employers can set age limits for new hires, depending on the role. From about 60, check the specific vacancy before investing a lot of effort. SCFHS is separate: a medical report is currently required only for applicants over 65. SCFHS requirements

Medical facilities for the Security Forces of the Ministry of Interior. Neither the Ministry of Defense nor the National Guard, and closer to specialist outpatient clinics than to another large full hospital. They still belong in any map of Medina’s public and security-linked healthcare market.

The centre has 18 general and specialist clinics plus emergency, dental, laboratory, radiology, pharmacy and nursing. Specialties include family medicine, dermatology, internal medicine, psychiatry, gynecology, pediatrics, physiotherapy, neurology, orthopedics, endocrinology, surgery, urology, ENT and cardiology. Al Borg CareersAl Salam Endowment Hospital
Al Salam Endowment Hospital (مستشفى السلام الوقفي) is a waqf hospital next to the Prophet’s Mosque. Madinah Development Authority documents cite 81 beds and services in emergency, dialysis and intensive care. The Ministry of Health still lists Al Salam as a relevant facility in Medina. Al-Ansar Hospital: a future employer
The new Al-Ansar Hospital is being developed as a public hospital under a PPP model for the Ministry of Health. The plan is 244 beds. The developer names the Hajj season 2027 as the operational start. It is not yet a working employer like King Fahd or Fakeeh, but it can become very relevant for future jobs in Medina. Project page
Allied health: not only doctors and nurses
This includes radiology technologists, laboratory specialists, physiotherapists, respiratory therapists, occupational therapists, dietitians and medical-technical professions. Fakeeh, MNGHA, the Ministry of Defense, Saudi German and Mouwasat employ large teams in these fields. Specialist employers such as Al Borg sit alongside them.
Saudization: It has tightened in several allied-health professions. Depending on the field, a role can be harder for foreign applicants than a highly specialised consultant post.
SCFHS: classification and registration
For foreign doctors, dentists, nurses, pharmacists and many allied-health professions, the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties is one of the key authorities. Two steps should not be mixed up.
Professional classification
Sets the level at which a person is recognised in Saudi Arabia. For doctors that can mean resident, registrar, specialist or consultant. A specialist title from Germany is not automatically the same grade. SCFHS confirms that classification can already be applied for from abroad.
Professional registration

Checking the documents
Foreign qualifications are not accepted unchecked. Depending on the case, SCFHS requires verification of qualifications, professional licences and experience abroad through a verification provider accepted by the Commission. SCFHS classification requirements

A Saudi hospital is not a German hospital
Moving from Germany to Medina changes more than the country and the language. Mindset and working culture inside the hospital can be different too. That does not automatically mean lower medical quality. Large tertiary hospitals and military or National Guard facilities can work at a very high clinical and technical level.
Hierarchies, decision paths and collaboration between doctors, nursing, administration, patients and families can work differently from Germany. Communication and empathy are sometimes shown differently. Families are often more closely involved in treatment and care.
Many teams are international: Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan, Pakistan, India, the Philippines, Europe and elsewhere. Anyone expecting a German hospital will need to adjust. People who treat the other system as another system usually settle in faster.

Conclusion
Medina’s healthcare market is larger than a first look suggests. On the public side there is not only King Fahd, Ohud and King Salman Medical City, but also Al-Miqat and Al Salam Endowment Hospital. Al-Ansar adds another large public hospital, planned for the Hajj season 2027.
The military and National Guard facilities are worth checking early: Prince Sultan Armed Forces Hospital and Prince Mohammed Bin Abdulaziz Hospital.
The private market is larger than Fakeeh, Saudi German and Mouwasat. It also includes Hayat, Al Zahra, Safa Al Madinah, Al Dar, Madinah National Hospital and Al-Ahmadi, plus Wahat Al Shifa, NahdiCare and Al Madinah Medical Center.
For international professionals, SCFHS classification, a clean document check and a realistic view of Saudi working culture remain the basis of an application in Medina.
